It’s been a while since we produced a Breakfast in Bed for you, but we’ve been sifting through a pile of great songs, mostly new with some old, new, borrowed and blue tunes for guilt-free lazy listening.
This time around, we’ve cleared the deck for the arrival of a marvellous new EP from the extremely versatile, young US guitar player Ethan Sherman. We’ve picked a couple of tracks from Mostly Fiddle Tunes; a five-track recording of his own guitar transpositions and loose arrangements of well-known bluegrass tunes. Ethan also kindly recorded a few observations about the experience, and we’ve framed a couple of selections from the EP with his remarks about playing fiddle tunes on guitar.
Breakfast in Bed 4 goes out (appropriately enough) on Sunday 4th October at 11.00 BST, and is repeated at various times to encourage rest and relaxation at just about any time of day. It will also be archived on Mixcloud and scheduled for inclusion in the forthcoming podcast provision from 1320Radio.
In this fourth edition of the show we’ll be featuring among many others fast-rising stars Emma McGrath, Canen, Siobhan Wilson, Roxanne de Bastion, Kaity Rae, Liz Russo, and Behla Hutchinson. There are also some lovely tracks from Emmylou Harris, Tir na Nog and Neil Warden. The regular ‘Back to Back Jazz’ feature remains firmly in the show with a couple of swooners from Nat King Cole and Kurt Elling.
It’s something of a ladies’ day on B in B 4, but that’s simply because there’s so much quality coming from a genuine new wave of female singer-songwriter talent. We’d also like to give a big round of applause to the online folk music magazine Fatea, and Helen Meissner’s Folkstock initiative. We wouldn’t normally encourage you to leave the idyllic surrounding of our website, but please do follow those links to both of these organizations. Without their vision and generosity, we perhaps wouldn’t realise so much great music was in our midst.
Coming to ears near you – Breakfast on Bed 4 with Mike Clark, Sunday 4.10.15 @ 11.00 BST, and repeated on Saturday & Sunday 10th and 11th October 2015 at 07.00.
